Steps
Start in profile, weight on the far foot.
Rotate the head over the near shoulder until you catch the lens with both eyes.
Drop the near shoulder; lift the chin just enough to keep the neck long.
Let the far arm hang or hold a jacket/bag so the hands have a job.
Pro tips
- Hair or a coat collar in the foreground adds depth — don’t tidy it all away.
- If the nose overlaps the far cheek, turn back a few degrees.
Common mistakes
- Twisting only the neck. The turn should start in the ribs.
- A strained look. Exhale before the shutter.
Lighting
Side or back light with a rim on the hair. Face should still have a catchlight; bounce a little light in if needed.
